OUR HISTORY
The Newman Catholic Center in Davis was established in 1965 and is sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Sacramento. The Newman Center is housed on the original site of St. James Catholic Church. St. James Parish is now located at 14th and B streets. John Henry Cardinal Newman was a proponent of liberal education, the role of the laity, and the place of conscience in one's life. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has established chaplainries called Newman Centers, named in his honor, to care for the spiritual needs of those engaged in university life and to serve as a Catholic presence in the university environment.
OUR SPIRITUALITY
A SPIRITUALITY OF JOY
As alleluia people, who celebrate the presence of God's love in our lives, we make it our duty to share our joy and our hope with others.
A SPIRITUALITY OF GRATITUDE
We strive to be grateful for all aspects of life, the good as well as the bad, the moments of joy as well as the moments of sorrow. Through all of our life experiences we trust that we will see in it the guiding hand of our loving God.
A SPIRITUALITY OF TENDERNESS
We learn to love and live relationally in the Church, we believe this is expressed through loving tenderness, patience, and mercy.
